Winter Tide is an innovative contribution to the problem of individualization on a large scale. The natural freezing process inspired the design; it was used to create random patterns. Just as every snowflake is different, every lamp made with Dagny Rewera’s idea is unique. When the lamp is switched off the surface covers with crystals, creating a completely frozen picture. When the piece is turned on, the bulb heats up, making the ice crystals vanish, and leaving a transparent surface. After some time the light source cools, and the liquid freezes again. The design, inspired by the beautiful, delicate, and complex forms of ice crystals, bore fruit in lamps that display a magical phenomenon observed in nature.
