The designer addresses the ongoing phenomenon of cultural homogenisation which is reflected in the process of unifying typographic means in favour of the English language, while losing the diversity of regional forms. The author treats language and typography not only as a means of communication but also as an element of self-identification and a symbol of cultural identity. The project is focused on ligatures – visual combinations of letters. More information about the project can be found on its website, which is also an archive of ligature examples adapted to the needs of individual languages. Last but not least, the author has designed the Connection typeface to illustrate particular examples of ligatures.
