The author of the project was inspired by the words of the Polish actor Bogusław Linda, who dubbed Łódź as “the city of bums”, and the controversy that had stirred. Another inspiration was the official city advertising message, which presents Łódź as a historical centre of textile industry and avant-garde, embodied in the figures of the artists Władysław Strzemiński and Katarzyna Kobro. The designer wished to show the city from a different perspective – its underworld. The publication is formed by three ring binders and additional elements: a poster, a mini-book, and a set of temporary tattoos. The materials use various printing methods: digital print, artistic print, and manual industrial print. Each part corresponds with one letter of the city acronym LDZ – L is for “Lufa” (reference to alcoholism), D is for “Dziewczyna” (reference to prostitution), and Z is for “Zbrodnia” (reference to crime).
