In the project, the designer made use of old and unwanted denim trousers. She dismantled the fabric and cut it into small pieces so that it could be defibred into paper pulp using the Hollander beater machine. Then, she used the material to make jeans elements of a different thickness range. The final collection consists of six fabrics, produced manually on a semi-mechanical jacquard loom. The use of twill weave derivatives is a direct reference to jeans as the source material. The designer’s intention was to raise awareness about textile waste recycling: textiles should not be treated as rubbish but as a recyclable resource.
