This work presents a narrative of returning to the district in which the author grew up. This period evokes a range of contrasting emotions. On the one hand, the author experiences nostalgia for childhood, which he recalls as a happy and largely positive time and one for which he occasionally feels longing. The place, remembered from the perspective of a carefree child, stands in contrast to the author’s present emotional response when revisiting his hometown. These contemporary feelings are shaped primarily by a fear of encountering people from his past and of being perceived as an earlier version of himself—an identity with which he no longer identifies. The author often feels burdened by memories that compel him to reoccupy a former self that he has since outgrown. To articulate these emotions, he chose to personify them in the form of a monster, which functions as a guide through the past. This figure presents the author’s positive memories while mediating the experience in a way that prevents the protagonist from remaining a detached observer, yet also protects him from becoming entangled in emotionally risky situations. The animation was created using Procreate, and the artist intentionally adopted a slightly raw and expressive painterly style to emphasize the instability of the emotional state portrayed in the film.
