According to the author, textbook designing, often a neglected discipline, is a very important, creative, and demanding task for designers. One of the basic difficulties consists in combining the illustrations with a clear layout of the book. In this case, the content of the book is organised by means of the witty illustrations referring to the classic techniques of linocut and screen printing. The book is divided into chapters beginning with illustrations of a given letter of the alphabet, taking up the whole page. The chapters differ by colours – the same colour palette is used in small drawings and exercises within each unit. The spelling book looks calm in terms of graphics and does not distract the user’s attention; at the same time, there is still room for creative activities, notes, or pictures. It is oriented towards both schoolchildren and the adults who help them in learning.
