The modern graphic designer is increasingly much more than someone who makes graphic designs. S/he can sometimes be the creator of the contents, or supervise the creation process and production. Paulina Urbańska’s Visual Schoolbook, subtitled A Graphic Design Handbook for the Young, is precisely such a project. She not only handled the book’s graphic design, but also wrote and edited it, making the selection of quotes and illustrations, demonstrating her considerable knowledge in graphic design.

The handbook aims to raise aesthetic awareness, and thus to improve the appearance of our surroundings. The book is composed of three parts devoted to the history of graphic design and the definition of graphic design, the principles of composition and typography, and rules of visual communication.
