This thesis examines the design of a typeface developed using LED technology. The primary objective is to creatively employ existing technological solutions in order to design a legible typeface within a selected stylistic framework, while accounting for both the possibilities and constraints inherent to the medium. The research aims to formulate a coherent system of rules and principles for the construction of typographic signs. To date, no comprehensive tool has been established that enables the systematic and methodologically sound development of spatial typography in which light is treated as a fundamental design component.
In response to the prevalent practice of uncritical replication of conventional typographic forms, the project seeks to develop a set of signs that is intrinsically adapted to the technology that defines it. The thesis further addresses issues related to assembly, application, scaling, and the diffusion of light, emphasizing light as a significant functional and expressive asset. Its influence on the arrangement of lighting elements in the formation of typographic structures is therefore examined in detail. The visual character of the proposed typeface emerges as a negotiated balance between technological constraints and typographic conventions, enriched through references to Op Art aesthetics.
