The HAY Chair was inspired by the hilly landscape of Slovakia. The seat was made of 100% biodegradable and recyclable material: dried hay and straw mixed with cellulose adhesive. The mixture was formed in a mould under high pressure). The base structure of the chair was made with bent steel rods; it is fixed to the seat without any other additional parts. Due to the reasons of ergonomics, the chair is suitable for short-term use only, no longer than 20 minutes. Its construction forces you to sit in a healthy position. As the chairs are lightweight and it is easy to put one on another, they can be used in public spaces such as cultural and commercial centres or waiting rooms.
