The Symbolon typeface raised a heated discussion among the jury members. Some called it a relic from the past, while others praised the designer’s ability to join hand-drawn and geometrical features in a single harmonious set. Symbolon is interesting in its multidimensionality. It remains attractive in individual black-and-white letters, as well as on a larger space covered with an endless color pattern of its glyphs. The designer’s examples of the type in commercial use are also convincing (on a cover, in a brochure, on packaging). Most of the jury acknowledged Symbolon to be a rare contemporary example of successfully combining hand script and typography.
