Elektor is an experimental tool in the form of a font. It is based on various illustrations of digital circuits recovered from hobby magazines from the 1970s through the 1990s. The author compares these illustrations to a kind of language that explains the inner nature of devices. From today’s perspective, they are abstract compositions that most people perceive as incomprehensible. As a result of technological progress, they are sometimes viewed as rubbish stored in digital archives. The outcome of the analysis is a set of characters which are composed of pixels and correspond to keyboard keys. The project can be applied in practice in a variety of ways: for instance, as a system of characters for creating patterns. The designer has also prepared a printed sample book for the font and two posters.
