The non-fiction book Journey Between the Senses is a metaphorical journey into the world of synesthesia. Synesthetes are people who perceive the world completely differently than others—their senses are interconnected, one sensation can trigger another. The book reveals different layers of this phenomenon, it explores various forms of perception experienced by synesthetes, and goes beyond synesthesia itself. This phenomenon is not only privilege of a small part of population, but it also reveals a lot about the functioning of the human brain and the way metaphors are formed in our everyday lives. Although synesthesia has been relatively well researched, especially abroad, non-fiction literature on this phenomenon is rather rare in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This fact became one of the main motivating factors for the creation of a new educational book that presents synesthesia in a playful and understandable way as a phenomenon on the borderline between science, poetry, and art.
