This project is a deeply personal and subjective guide to the author’s hometown of Białystok, shaped by her emotional connection to the place. The city of Białystok also functions as a metaphor for the aesthetics, atmosphere, and visual character of many smaller towns in Poland in the early 2000s. The project aims to reveal the city’s less obvious side, including its local traditions and unofficial, everyday spaces. The author drew visual inspiration from early-2000s pop culture, toys, games, and films, creating a distinctive blend of reality and personal memory.. Creating the guide was an attempt to materialize memories and give them tangible form through illustration. The design process involved researching the featured locations, combining this information with remembered fragments of the past, and producing all illustrations using analog techniques, which were later digitized. The typography was also partially hand-drawn, then scanned and combined with digital typefaces.
