The designer has an interesting point of departure: How to design an ordinary piece of furniture while using simple forms. She subtly alludes to the contemporary trend that seeks to surprise and astonish with overblown forms, which often arise from superficial design analysis and in fact do not express the essence of the object, nor serve the user’s real needs. This graduating student chose the chair for her design “manifesto” because it has been a part of our culture for thousands of years. Indeed, this is a piece where the slightest mistake is immediately visible, and whose quality can be easily ascertained. The designer has rigorously followed the criteria she set, using the qualities of the material and simple forms, emphasizing attention to detail.
