In Zabrze, as in other cities, there are many places that would interest the tourist, but which are not promoted or exploited. This designer has presented a concept marking out paths linking sacral and industrial buildings, public institutions, residential sites etc., all characteristic of Upper Silesia. The design creates various routes, with information concerning the length of the path, the time required, the mode of transport (on foot, public transportation) and descriptions of the various places. The plans were developed in black and white, because the designer – seeking to reduce the costs of implementing the design – has anticipated that users will take it from the Internet and print it out at home. We predict that this design could be continued through developing guidebooks that use GPS technology, available as mobile phone or iPad applications. The schematic map of the city is a vital part of this design, as are the pictograms of all the sites covered in the guidebook.
