The publication explores Syrian textile techniques. It is the author’s response to the decline of knowledge about the Syrian crafts in the time of globalisation and the ongoing war. As some of her family members come from Syria, the project has a personal value. It consists of five card sets that describe the textile manufacturing methods and applications in Syria and the most commonly used materials and motifs. The linear graphics allude to existing patterns. Each set is wrapped in the fabric it describes – it serves both as a case and a sample, ensuring first-hand experience. The sets come in a box with golden ornaments, combining the characteristics of all the fabrics. The design process was preceded by research on the textile industry: the designer used the acquired information to develop the patterns, based on square modules. As a result, she was able to accurately recreate the properties of each fabric and introduce coherence into the design.
